Project Update
1/12/2023: Proposal Submission Update
As you may know, UNM adopted Streamlyne, a new electronic research administration system in 2022, culminating with the launch of the proposal development module in November. We thank you for your patience during this major transition which affects nearly all aspects of research at UNM.
We appreciate all of the hard work that our research administrators across campus have done to meet deadlines and successfully continue to support our research community through this transition.
As we continue to develop and explore the capabilities of our new eRA system, a few reminders are in order. Please note that Streamlyne is now the system of record for all external funding proposals.
- All external funding proposals require a Streamlyne record and a proposal review appointment with the Office of Sponsored Projects (OSP). For proposals that will not be submitted into Grants.gov (including NSF proposals), be sure to use the simplified “All Others” template which is similar to the old Cayuse SP template.
- Submissions into Grants.gov must use the system-to-system integration in Streamlyne unless a specific exception is granted by OSP. Exceptions to deviate from using the University’s system of record will only be provided for solicitations with requirements that are not accommodated by the Streamlyne system. If you need assistance preparing your proposal, please review the options below:
- We highly recommend that researchers submitting Grants.gov submissions work with trained research support staff. The Faculty Research Development Office (FRDO) offers support for researchers throughout the proposal development process.
- FRDO is also offering virtual office hours for any researchers or staff who are working in Streamlyne and require assistance with specific parts of the application.
- A variety of manuals and training materials are available on the Resources webpage. These will continue to be updated. To schedule a training demo for your unit, submit a support request.
- You may notice small deviations (<5%) in salary and fringe calculations in Streamlyne’s budget tool (Grants.gov submissions only) compared to the excel budget template. These are expected and correspond with prorated salary inflation. For larger deviations consult the budget guide for more information.
- The majority of problems we have been seeing relate to assignment of user roles which enable users to view, edit, or approve proposals and awards for specific unit(s). If you are encountering problems with access, submit a support request identifying the correct unit affiliation(s).
- Users should also note that Streamlyne receives personnel information from Banner. If your demographic information in Banner is incorrect, you may need to submit a Demographic self-service application or visit human resources to have your data corrected.
- Researchers are encouraged to follow the Proposal Submission Checklist to ensure all requirements are completed.
Please remember to be kind to OSP and other support staff. They are working long hours to ensure all proposals can be submitted on time.
Additional questions or concerns may be sent to assocvpr@unm.edu.

10/25/2022: All PIs and Research Support Staff: Please read the important information below and share with your colleagues.
Streamlyne is now live for proposal submissions and conflict of interest disclosures. To prevent any delays in proposal submission:
- Please use the attached Proposal Submission checklist.
- All proposal submissions require a scheduled appointment with Office of Sponsored Projects in advance of the sponsor deadline. As soon as you know you will be submitting a proposal, we highly recommend scheduling an OSP appointment that is 5 business days in advance of your proposal deadline (longer for more complex proposals) in case your proposal needs adjustments.
- Your Streamlyne proposal record including all proposal components must be complete at the time of your review appointment. Be prepared to submit your proposal to the sponsor at the end of your OSP review. OSP does not have the capacity to build Streamlyne records.
- If your proposal requires submission through Grants.gov (see below if you are unsure), contact a Faculty Research Support Officer (FRSO) as soon as possible with your solicitation details for guidance on how to submit your proposal. FRSO support can be requested through https://researchsupport.unm.edu .
- If your proposal does NOT require submission through Grants.gov, ensure you select the “All Others (Not submitted on Grants.gov)” template. You can find it here:
- Main Menu >> Pre-Award >> Proposal Development >> Create New >> Template >> All Others (Not submitted on Grants.gov).
- A shorter Streamlyne record will be required in addition to completion of the submission in the Sponsor’s portal.
- Introduction to Streamlyne training is strongly recommended for all PIs. Those submitting to Grants.gov should work with a trained research staff member or the Faculty Research Development Office. See https://streamlyne.unm.edu for the latest live training opportunities, as well as recorded trainings and help guides.
- Please remember to be kind to OSP and other support staff. They are working long hours to ensure all proposals can be submitted on time.
If you are unable to access Streamlyne or have additional questions or concerns, please contact us at assocvpr@unm.edu.
The majority of legacy proposal records from Cayuse will be migrated by Nov 1. If you require access to a Cayuse record before then, contact assocvpr@unm.edu .
FAQ: How do I know if I have a Grants.gov submission? Grants.gov is the required submission portal for many federal agencies, including the NIH, DOE, HHS, Dept. of Education, AFRL, EPA, NEH, NEA. Confer with the attached list to identify Grants.gov solicitations due in Oct/Nov 2022. All other proposal submissions, including NSF, non-federal agencies, and subawards to UNM do not involve Grants.gov and should be completed using the “All Others” proposal template, in addition to sending all proposal materials using the Sponsor’s portal.
